Bearcats split doubleheader with Harris

The Bainbridge Bearcats varsity baseball team split a doubleheader against the Harris County Tigers this past Friday in Hamilton, Ga.
The Bearcats won the first game, 15-7, but lost the second game, 8-0.
Game 1: Bainbridge 15, Harris County 7
The first game was a back-and-forth contest in which both teams had big innings. Harris County scored three runs in the bottom of the third to go up 4-2, but the Bearcats roared back with five in the fourth to take a lead they would never relinquish. Bainbridge’s added one run in the fifth inning, and the hot hitters tacked on seven more runs in the top of the seventh.
The Bearcats had 11 hits in Game 1, with Tate Lambert leading the way with two hits. Shawon Gardner reached base three times on walks. Ryals Smith had four RBIs and Matt Burke had three, while Blake Voyles and Jordan Davis each had two. Ben Day had an RBI, a sacrifice hit and was hit by a pitch.
Rion Murrah pitched a complete game and had five strikeouts.
Game 2: Harris County 8, Bainbridge 0
The Bearcats’ bats cooled off in Game 2, as Harris County pitcher Casey Cobb gave up just two hits and struck out 12 Bearcats en route to a complete game win.
Blake Voyles’ double and Tate Lambert’s single were the only Bainbridge hits. Rion Murrah reached on an error.
One issue for Bainbridge on Friday was errors: they had three errors in the first game and four in the second.
Harris County scored one run in the first, four in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the six.
Jake Goodson took the loss for the Bearcats. Jordan Davis came on in relief to pitch 5 1/3 innings, notching two strikeouts.
With the split, the Bearcats’ record is now 7-11.
The varsity Bearcats were scheduled to travel to Leon High School of Tallahassee on Tuesday, April 9, at 4 p.m. They will take on region opponent Thomas County Central in a doubleheader Friday night in Thomasville. Game 1 will start at 5 p.m.
