Decatur County schools have been chosen by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning as one of 126 classrooms across Georgia to offer a six-week summer transition program for children who either did not attend a Pre-K program, or attended but are in need of additional support to be ready for Kindergarten in the fall.
According to Catherine Gossett, project director for the Pre-K program, there will be one classroom to serve 16 students. The six-week program begins Monday, June 3 and is targeted for children whose families are eligible for child and parent services administered by Bright from the Start.
Registration will be Tuesday, May 7 at the Decatur County Student Support Center at 507 Martin St., in West Bainbridge, Room #1 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Qualifying students must be age 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2013, never enrolled in Georgia Pre-K or entered Pre-K late in the year and be a Georgia resident. All families must met income eligibility requirements (85% of state median income). Required documents are: certified birth certificate, proof of residency, Social Security card, immunization certificate, and proof of all household income.
