Ellis Edward “Ed” Thompson, 83, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Johns and Rev. Stanley Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery with David Hill, Eddie Moore, Johnny Edwards, Ned Bryan, Ted Bryan, and David Bruss serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Faceville Baptist Church Building Fund, 1407 Faceville-Attapulgus Hwy., Bainbridge, GA 39819.
Mr. Thompson was born June 13, 1930 in Brinson, Ga., the son of James Mitchell Thompson and Rachel Bailey Thompson. He worked as a plasterer in residential and commercial construction. Mr. Thompson was a member of Faceville Baptist Church and was a member of the Cool Springs Cemetery Committee.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Lunsford Thompson; his brothers, George Thompson, I.J. Thompson, Sr., and Olin Thompson; and his sisters, Nell Hendley and Lois King.
Survivors include his sons, Earl Thompson and his wife, Nancy, of Bainbridge, and Devin Thompson and his wife, Jean, of Bainbridge; his daughters, Donna Bryan and her husband, Carlton, of Bainbridge, and Teresa Barnett and her husband, Rick, of Boca Raton, Fla.; his brother, Joseph Thompson of Ormond Beach, Fla.; his 14 grandchildren, his 19 great-grandchildren; and his 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
