Funeral services for Henry Harris Sr., 81, of Brinson, will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion M.B. Church, in Bainbridge, with Rev. Willie J. Kegler officiating. Active pallbearers will be Larry Bell, Deacon Michael Bell, Robert Brown, Calvin Green, George Jones, and Lee Marvin Jones. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery, Cyrene, Ga.
He was born on July 18,1932 to the late Bud Mitchell Harrison and the late Henrietta Koonce Harrison. He died on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013.
Henry accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Zion M.B. Church. He was a member at Mount Zion from childhood to adulthood until his health began to fail. He served on the Deacon Board and was Choir Chaplain, Senior Choir Member and Sunday School Superintendent.
Henry was joined in Holy Matrimony to the former late Bronzie Glenn. To their union five children were born; one of whom, Barbara Joyce Harris Daniels, preceded him in death. On February 20, 1998, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Myrtice Green and they were married for fifteen years until his earthly departure.
Henry was employed at Rentz Farm Supply for 52 years. Deacon Harris was a faithful servant in his community, Mount Zion, and other surrounding churches.
Left to cherish his memories are a devoted wife, Myrtice Harris of Brinson; two sons, Deacon John Harris Sr. (Rochonda) of Brinson, and Henry Harris Jr. (Mary) of Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Delores Henry (Stanley) of Jakin, Ga., and Janet Peterson (Victor) of Augusta; eight stepchildren; a special granddaughter whom he raised, Linda “Plum” Ford (Robert) of Virginia; one brother, Mitchell Harris of Tampa, Fla.; one aunt, Ira Handsford of Miami, Fla.; a devoted friend, Rev. Percy Leggett Jr.; and a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
