Graveside services for Gwinnett Augustus Maxwell, 92, of Cairo, will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Whigham, Ga., with Rev. Robert Crapps officiating. Mr. Maxwell passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Grady General Hospital in Cairo.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Mr. Maxwell was born on Sept. 20, 1921, in Grady County, Ga., to the late Gus M. Maxwell and Elizabeth Coker Maxwell. On October 29, 1939, he married Mildred Sears of Whigham, who preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2002. He was a farmer in Grady County and a 50-year member of the Whigham Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Dexter Maxwell (Judith) of Bainbridge, and Dennis Maxwell (Nancy) of Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Marsha Belcher (Paul) of Tallahassee, and Connie Powe (Jimmy) of Whigham, GA; eleven grandchildren, John Maxwell (Meredith) of Athens, Ga., Anne Maxwell of Denver, Colo., Jason Maxwell, Amanda Maxwell Runge (Mason), Keith Maxwell, and Benton Belcher (Lisa), all of Tallahassee, Holly Belcher Boudreau (Damien) of Atlanta, Angela Powe Bearden (Robbie) of Cairo, Wesley Powe and Doug Powe, of Whigham, and Dan Powe of Cairo; five great-grandchildren, Owen Bearden, Evan Bearden, and Gracie Powe, all of Cairo, Linden Belcher and Benton Belcher, II, of Tallahassee; a sister, Winnie Jean Hester of Cairo; a nephew, Pervis Hester (Susan) of Dothan, Ala., and a niece, Rita Hester of Norcross, Ga..
The family received friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
