Climax City Council updates service strategy, approves GMA liability payment

The Climax City Council met Monday, May 11 and made the following decisions:
Under new business:
The Comprehensive planning and update of service strategy current plan expires Oct. 31, 2017. Plan will consist of three major elements.

There will be Public hearings and many meeting to satisfactorily, complete a plan that will be approved by Community services.
A motion was made by Council member Sandra Thomas to elect Keith Brady as the Cities’ Prosy at the Annual Membership Business Meeting in Savannah Georgia on June 28, 2015, and second by Council member Vanessa martin carried unanimously.
Council woman Vanessa Martin made a motion and received a second from Council woman Sandra Thomas to support those City officials that have been nominated as GMA’s District 10 Officers for the year 2015-2016, and to vote for Bridgette Williams as Third Vice President, the motion carried unanimously.
In other business: The Mayor and council reviewed the municipal street list to make sure all are inside the City limits for voting purposes. The list was approved unanimously. Another motion passed unanimously to approve the estimated cost of $1,340.38 for the election on November 3, 2015 payable to the county.
GMA property & Liability Self-Insurance
Program is up for renewal at a cost of $20,310.
Options are
(A) Cash Due on Binding
(B) 5 percent down balance due in 30 days
(C) 25 percent down balance due in four monthly installments. The entire contribution must be paid within six months of the effective date.
A motion passed unanimously to approve the renewal and make a 25 percent down and 4 monthly installments.
The council voted to move the CD marked as Ball Park from the Bank of Ozark to the First State Bank of Bainbridge when the CD comes up for renewal on Oct. 19, 2015
City Clerk Karen Toole asked the council to change the water billing system from QS/1 to united System Technology In. Up front cost will be $2,375 which includes licenses fee, technology support for 1 year and training with a renewal if $495 a year. Changing to the new software will save the City $1,605.00 a year. A motion passed unanimously to change the water billing system.
City Clerk Toole announced that several people had asked for the stove to be put back into the Tigers Den for heating purposes. Fire Chief Jeff Kelly stated that in his opinion this should not be allowed due to someone leaving the stove on and unattended which could cause a fire and that would be the end of the gym. The council voted unanimously not to replace the stove in the Tigers Den due to the danger of being left on.
Keep America Beautiful Clean Up days will be May 11-15. All trash items needs to be placed on the curb for pick up. Items will not be picked until Maintenance Supervisor Greg Toole returns from Water training class which is being held on May 12 through 14 .
Department reports:
Fire Chief Jeff Kelly reported that the department had to replace the battery in the fire truck. Cost $219.11. This is the first time the battery has been replaced since the fire truck was purchased. He also reported that the department had helped with several fires in Bainbridge, and Attapulgus during the month of April
Old Business
Status of the Little park: Toole is still waiting on the County to help with the pouring of the concrete.
Mayor Charles Hadsock reported on the Jenkins case as follows:
The Employer/Self-Insurer was ordered to pay the Employee’s wife to provide the Employee with injury related attendant care at the rate provided for home attendant care by a family member as provided by Board’s Rules and Medical Fee Schedule beginning as of August 19, 2013 and continuing until modified or terminated in accordance with the law. GMA/City of Climax has filed an appeal with the Decatur County Superior Court.
