A Bainbridge man was arrested Monday after an officer found multiple bags of marijuana during a traffic stop.
Aaron Smart Gayle, 26, of Bainbridge was arrested and charged with controlled substance – possession of marijuana, wrong class of drivers license and seatbelt violation, all of which are misdemeanor charges.
Bainbridge Public Safety officer Codey Vaughn made a traffic stop Monday around 3 p.m. when he noticed a driver not wearing a seatbelt near the intersection of Scott Street and Calhoun Street.
“As Officer Vaughn was explaining the reason for the traffic stop, Officer Vaughn noticed Gayle shaking, as if [he] was nervous,” according to the incident report.
Vaughn asked to see the driver’s license and saw that the license was a Class CP Instructional Permit. According to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, a Class CP license holder can only operate a vehicle when “accompanied by a person at least 21 years of age who is license to drive.”
Vaughn received permission to search the vehicle and found three bags of a green leafy substance that was suspected marijuana. Vaughn also found several baggies that were empty and a rolled blunt in a cigarillos packet.
Gayle was released on Own Recognizance.
