The Bainbridge Middle School eighth grade Bearcats dropped a 52-48 overtime decision to Thomasville’s MacIntyre Park Middle School eighth grade Bulldogs Monday at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.
The Bearcats led 45-43 late but the Bulldogs hit two late free throws as the clock wound down to pull even 45-45. They then outscored the Bearcats 7-3 in overtime to pull out the victory.
“I thought we played well overall,” Bearcats coach Heith Maxwell said after the game. “We fell behind early and trailed 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.”
A nine-point second quarter by point guard Dewayne Kyles helped the Bearcats pull within four, at 23-19, at halftime. Kyles, whose nine-point effort was a team high, also distributed the ball to other players in good scoring position. They cut the advantage to two, 32-30, after three quarters.
Behind Kyles in the Lady Cats scoring column were guard Jalyn Peterson and Guard Jeremiah McClain with 8 points apiece, power forward Jordan Brown center Anthony Florence with 6 points apiece and guard Tevin McWith 5 points.
The Bearcats will conclude their season today when they host Cairo Washington Middle School eighth grade Tigers.
“We have struggled some this season, but the good thing is that we shown improvement from game to game,” coach Maxwell said.
