Funeral services for James H. Mitchell, 73, of Cairo, Ga., are at 11 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2016, at First Freewill Baptist Church, Cairo. Rev. Eric Mitchell will officiate. Services will conclude at the Church. Private interment will be in the Cairo Cemetery, Cairo. Mr. Mitchell passed away at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.
Active pallbearers will be Earnest Rogers, Robbie Mitchell, Dave Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, Eric Mitchell, Jr., Jeffrey Rash and Eric Merritt.
Mr. Mitchell was born on November 12, 1942, in Lake Park, Ga., to the late Charles H. Mitchell and Ruby Lee Mitchell. On April 8, 1975, he married Mary Johnson Mitchell, who survives. He worked with Engelhard of Attapulgus for 29 years, and was also president of United Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Pine Forrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Louise Johnson Mitchell of Cairo; daughters, Jan Krassa of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda Jackson (Timothy) of Cairo, Jill Hafner (Kevin) of Jacksonville, Rhonda Taylor (Fred) of Cairo; son, Doug Mitchell (Stella) of Cairo; grandchildren, Tabitha Krassa, Jamie Krassa, Maria Benton, all of Jacksonville, Holly Hoke, Bailey Hartman, Sydney Hartman, Cassidy Hafner, all of Jacksonville, Wesley Dozier, Kayla Carter, Ian Dozier, Athena Vickers, all of Cairo, Jessica Battle, Michael Lee, Jasmine Lee, all of Cairo, Sierra Lee, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Amber Halbert, Sumner Groves, both of Cairo; great-grandchildren, DaVon Lee, Malik Halbert, both of Cairo, Dakota Krassa, C. J. Hokey, both of Jacksonville; brothers, Ralph Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell, Eric Mitchell, Charles Mitchell, all of Cairo; sisters, Meddie Baggett, Alma Kincaid, Barbara Rash, Maxine Jarvis, all of Cairo; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Annie Bailey, Julia Rogers, Virginia Lancaster; and brothers, Rufus Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell, Frank Mitchell.
