Glenna Thornton, assistant to Decatur County Breast Cancer Support Group facilitator Linda Long, brought the Bainbridge Lions Club up to date Wednesday on several of the group’s upcoming events.
“Our support group will have a celebration of life in the pink luncheon, fashion show and silent auction Saturday, Sept. 24, at noon at the Kirbo Center,” Thornton said. “Tickets are $15 per person. I urge everyone to come and help us throw out the life line for breast cancer awareness in our county. Door prizes will be given and you must be present to win. A limited number of tickets are available at First National Bank of Decatur County and the Bainbridge Vision Center.
Thornton told the Lions that Decatur County Breast Cancer Support Group meetings are held the second Monday of every month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the first floor classroom at Memorial Hospital.
“We will have our annual Bainbridge High School Bearcats pink out football game and our new Bainbridge High School Bearcats basketball coach Terry Smith wants to add a pink out basketball game this year,” Thornton said.
At the support group, women will find the special support and understanding that they are looking for. They will have the opportunity to share their experiences, find hope, gain courage, get answers to their questions, help other women like themselves and make new and lasting friendships.
“Survivor support groups are led by trained facilitators who are breast cancer survivors or medically trained professionals,” Thornton said.
