Saturday will be the 4th annual Race to Rescue to benefit the Bainbridge Decatur County Humane Society.

The race was originally the idea of Nicole Touchton, who actually lives in Seminole County, where there is no Humane Society shelter.  She said as she has adopted shelter animals from Bainbridge, and she loves to run, it was a natural that it would be a good idea to have a 5K to benefit the shelter and help them build a new building that is so badly needed.

She reported on Monday of this week that there are 30 advance registrations. Historically, they have around 50 participants, so she hopes more will show up on Saturday morning. She said she was very pleased with the level of sponsors this year.

If you area looking for something to do Saturday morning, grab your dog and head on down to the Earle May Boat Basin for the one-mile dog jog. Or, if you are up to it, leave the dog at home and do the 5K run, all part of the Race to Rescue.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and costs $30. The races begin at 9 a.m.

All dogs must be non-aggressive, current on vaccinations, wearing a collar with ID tags and be on a leash. No retractable leashes allowed.
