The Bainbridge wrestling team competed against nine other teams last Saturday at the Hornet Dual Classic in Cook County, going 2-3 on the day but forfeiting five weight classes worth 30 points.
“We had several young ninth graders step up and perform well,” coach Chad Smith said.
Kendall Glover and Adam Pascual both came through with several victories at the 132 and 145 weight classes, respectively.
Tanner Brown, one of the captains for the duals meet, went 4-1 at the 160 weight class. The other Bearcats captain Tre’ Storey had a big day as he soared to an undefeated 5-0 record.
“Tre has a good opportunity to catch some records this year at the rate he is performing,” Smith said.
Bainbridge’s heavyweight Jacob Floyd, who only weights 205 in a 285 weight class, pulled two pins for the Bearcats.
“With only three weeks of practice and a team made mostly of young wrestler, I have seen constant improvement and a lot of wrestlers who are eager to get better,” Smith said. “This is the making of a region championship contending team in the future.”
Thursday, the Bearcats will compete against Cairo and Thomasville, and Saturday the team will travel to Tallahassee for the Chiles Duals.
