The honoring of Sam Mayhew as outstanding 2016-17 Bainbridge Lions Club president and an address to the club by Decatur County administrator Alan Thomas highlighted Wednesday’s meeting of the club.
President Adele Cunningham, who is completing the term of President Mayhew, will serve a full term as president in the 2017-2018 Lions year.
Cunningham presented checks to club supporters in appreciation for their contributions. Checks went to Ronnie Burke of Family Connection, Josh Paske of the Friendship House of Jesus, Belinda Green of the Decatur County Senior Center, Bree Maxwell of Special Olympics, and Jason Williams of the Decatur County Humane Society. A check was given toward the Lions Bainbridge College Scholarship.
“The Lions Club motto is we serve and with that in mind we try to help organizations who contribute positively to the welfare and strength of Bainbridge and Decatur County.
Thomas told the club that the 911 emergency system, which was started in 2004, is operating well.
“We also run a successful county landfill and have upgraded our radio system,” Thomas said. “We also have a successful public works program. We are proud of all of our programs and all of our employees.”
