Traffic was momentarily stalled Thursday around 8 a.m. after a car flipped on the Shotwell Street ramp onto Hwy. 84.
The driver was merging onto Hwy. 84 and proceeded without stopping for oncoming traffic, said Bainbridge Public Safety officer Jack Bunting, who worked the accident Thursday morning. As he struck a vehicle, the driver over-corrected and hit the walkway along the bridge over the Flint River. The front tire of the vehicle jumped the walkway and hit the guardrail.
“Had it not been for the guardrail, he would have gone off the bridge,” Bunting said.
The vehicle slid along the guardrail and eventually flipped onto its roof. Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the scene of the accident.
Bunting encouraged cars to be extremely careful when merging.
“It is very important to come to a complete stop and make sure no traffic is coming,” Bunting said.
The crash was cleared about an hour later.
