Be Bainbridge High’s “guest” for ‘Beauty and the Beast Jr.’

A tale as old as time will be retold Monday and Tuesday evening when the Bainbridge High School theater performs Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Director Leigh Powell is excited for this new performance, which will be half the duration of a full length musical. Powell said the musical will still contain all of the songs fans have grown to love, it will just contain less dialogue and be more accessible for students who are just getting involved with theater.
Auditions were held the first week of September and Powell was impressed with the turnout. She said she saw a lot of new students, along with returning seniors. But, both groups really came together to help make the production work.
Following auditions, Lauren Howard was cast as Belle, John Ingram as the Beast, Katie Floyd as Mrs. Potts and Seth Jones as Lumiere.
This is the second production the drama department has put on this school year. One Act previously performed The Brother’s Grimm Spectaculathon, which was more of a show, while Beauty and the Beast Jr. is a musical.
Powell said it is completely voluntary to be in the productions, but these two performances contrasted really well for people who may be not as comfortable singing.
The group has spent the past two weeks practicing to make this production a memorable one for all, despite the time constraints they have had due to Hurricane Michael.
They are hoping everyone will come out and support their hard work.
The musical will be Nov. 5-6 at the Kirbo Center Auditorium at 7 p.m.
Student tickets cost $5, general admission costs $10 and reserved seating costs $15. Because of the recent devastation, 10 percent of Tuesday night’s ticket sales will be donated to the Hurricane Michael Relief Funds.
