Powell Cobb, managing editor of The Bainbridge Post-Searchlight, updated the Bainbridge Lions Club Wednesday on the papers recent coverage of the heavy damage that Hurricane Michael brought to Bainbridge and Decatur County.
“First of all let me say that the major job of a community newspaper is to provide their readers with good news stories and features that affect them in their daily lives,” Cobb said in opening his comments. “During the storm we were able to keep our web site going by hitting hot spots on our computer.
“The night before the storm hit public safety came and informed me that I would have to leave my apartment located close to downtown. I left and came down to The Post-Searchlight.”
Cobb further told the Lions that the paper was able to get their Saturday edition out with the help of their sister paper in Andalusia, Alabama.
Cobb also shared with the Lions the main goal of any weekly and biweekly newspaper. “We must keep our readers informed with what our city and county officials are doing and proposing to do.”
He brought with him recent copies of Bainbridge Living Magazine, which the paper publishes quarterly and features various areas of Bainbridge and Decatur County life.
