Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Cats and Bearcats tennis team headed to Colquitt County High School, where the Lady Cats swept the Packers, while the Bearcats fell short.
Lady Cats number one singles, Sydnee Burke hit the courts first and came out with a win of 6-1,6-4. Number two singles, Mikey Harrell also won 6-1, 6-4, while Gracie Surratt won her sets 6-1, 6-0.
Coming off three wins, number one doubles team, Jade Stacey and Mackenzie Thomas won in a set of three 1-6, 6-4, 1-0. Number two doubles, Sarah Caroline Darley and Anna Marie Hall brought in the final win 6-3, 7-6.
This win brought the team to 7-0 for the season, and Coach Amy Thomas said the girls are showing a strong beginning leading into the first region match Saturday against Warner Robins.
The Bearcats struggled to return the volley. Number one singles Robert Bryan Shockley lost 0-6, 1-6 against CCHS player, Hayden Holloway and number two singles, Cole Buchanan lost against Nathan Corley in a 1-6, 4-6 match. Number three singles, Austin Aldridge did manage to gain a win for the Bearcats, beating out Andy Zhang 6-2, 6-3.
Hoping to make a comeback, number one doubles team, Lawson Humphrey and Brad Mitchell started off strong, but lost 1-6, 2-6, while number two doubles, Ben Mitchell and Brent Miller lost 0-6, 1-6.
While it wasn’t the win they were hoping for, Thomas remains optimistic.
“The boys are growing as a team and improving with each match,” she said.
The team hopes to come on strong as they start their region campaign on Friday. The Lady Cats are hoping to continue pushing forward after beating Maclay over the weekend.
