Students awarded at art show

It was a lively opening reception on Sunday, March 17, for the Student Art Show 2019 held at the Firehouse Arts Center from 2 to 4 p.m.
Both the Kirbo Gallery and the Harrell Gallery were full of excited youngsters, proud parents and grandparents, as well as local school art teachers who enjoyed exhibiting the success of their year of instruction.
Elementary school art (K-4th grade) was in the Kirbo Arts Gallery, and 5th through 12th grades were displayed in the Jimmy Harrell Gallery.
The afternoon came to a climax with awards presentations in all grade levels and categories.
Winners in order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place were: Elementary: Pre-K – Harrison Chastain, Tommy Benter, Rosie Glenn and Ashley Umbach; Kindergarten: Ellie Rae Timmons, Calhie Jane Rentz, Nashawn Rand, Mia Rizario; First grade: Caden Keys, Lyric Keato, Addie Long and Shannell Coward; Second grade: Dayton Cross, Tyshon Grimsley, Julio Padron and Blair Brown; Third: Eddie Grant, Michael Brown, James Moody and Joshua Cosby; Fourth grade: Kacy Kearns, Matthew Strickland, Christian Smith and Aria Lozano. Eddie Grant was Over-all winner in Elementary. He was not present at the awards program.
Middle School by Categories: Drawing: Marleigh Johnson, Isabelle Cambell, Alex Hatcher and Reginald Haynes; Printmaking: Destiny Grijalua, Sutton Smith, Jermaine Fleming, Autumn Oliver; Mixed Media: Tve Smith, Dulce Medendrez, Avery Blankenship, Autumn Oliver; Painting: Logan Rich, Marleigh Johnson, Anna Huynh, Samantha Turnage. Overall winner in Middle School: Logan Rich. High School by Categories: Drawing: Bethany Rentz, Samantha Worthington, Andy Ramos, Elizabeth Kent; Painting: Heaven Sizemore, Caroline Wellis, Kaylee Widner, Enedelia Garcia; Mixed Media: Rosie Rentz, Shayquavia Odom, Lacie Hall, Alexis Senior. 3-D Aida Brenner, J-Von Tomlin, Kedan Harring, Jameia Jones. Overall High School Award winner: Bethany Rentz for her drawing.
The show will continue March 18 thru March 22, Friday 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday March 24 from 2 to 4 p.m.
