After a number of Georgia schools made requests to move up or move down in classification, the GHSA has rearranged its 468 member schools into new regions for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years.
Bainbridge will be in Region 1-AAAA along with Cairo, Dougherty, Monroe, Thomas County Central and Westover.
The new region puts less travel pressure on Bainbridge teams, which were traveling more than 300 miles round-trip for games against Warner Robins, Veterans and Harris County. It was especially difficult for sports that play during the week, such as basketball and baseball.
Cairo has been a consistent game for Bainbridge over the past decade, both in Bainbridge’s region and out of it. The last time the Bearcats and the Syrupmakers were in the same region was the 2015-16 school year. Now, the often-played games between Bainbridge and Cairo will count in the region standings.
Dougherty, Monroe and Westover were also last played by Bainbridge in 2015-16. Dougherty and Westover currently reside in class 1-AAAA, but Monroe will be moving up from Region 1-AAA.
Warner Robins and Veterans will move up to Region 1-AAAAA with Coffee, Ware County and Wayne County, and Harris County will be added to Region 2-AAAAA with Griffin, McIntosh, Northgate, Northside Columbus, Starr’s Mill and Whitewater.
