Spring Creek Charter Academy is well on their way to developing a library, thanks to the giving nature of Malone School.
Malone School’s Future Educators of America recently held a book drive. Club sponsor Tameka Williams noticed the need for books while on Facebook.
“I was on Facebook and I noticed the school (SCCA) was doing their own little book drive,” Williams said. “A parent had told the class that the one that collects the most books would get a Popsicle party. So, I contacted her and I asked her if she minded if we helped. She said the school had just started and they don’t have a library yet. I told her we really wanted to help.”
Williams went on to say they started off after she presented the idea to Principal Doug Powell.
Williams said the books came in slowly in the beginning, but a rush of them came near the end of the drive. The drive ended up totaling 1,042 books. The drive took place over the course of two weeks, and the books were picked up on Friday and delivered to SCCA.
Although the FEA led the book drive, the entire Malone School contributed books.
This is the third year FEA has been established at Malone with Williams sponsoring all three years. Spring Creek Charter Academy opened their doors in the fall of 2019.
Other projects sponsored by FEA include sponsoring the Black History program and working with the local retirement homes. FEA members include Elijah Larry, Lindsey Williams, Stephani Free, Darion Perry, Reilly Blighton, Breanna Edwards, Janaisa Murff, Ne’kia Barnes, Jada Sutton, Jonaye’ Bellamy, Desmond Thomas, Anthony Nix, Josh Rivers and Prophetess Gray.
