On Friday afternoon, December 13, Officer Lakatie Reels made a surprise stop at John Johnson Elementary to pass out new gloves and small toys to children who walk home from school each day.
BPS Director Jerry Carter stated, “There are many children in Bainbridge who don’t have gloves, or even coats, and they walk to and from school every day. I thought that the gift of gloves and a toy would be a simple way to try to bring a little bit of joy to these children.”
Officer Reels said she was happy to have the opportunity to pass out the gloves and toys, and see it bring a smile to the kid’s faces. During the winter months, Bainbridge Public Safety officers plan to visit each county elementary school to pass out gloves to students who are “walkers.”
