As our community continues to adapt to living our lives within the guidelines of the Governor’s shelter-in-place order, most local businesses are doing everything they can just to survive to a time when COVID-19 is in our past.

Our story on the front page of this issue shares The Post-Searchlight’s efforts to survive the economic impact of COVID-19 on our own business. A business that provides news and information to residents of Bainbridge and Decatur county. A business that operates entirely from revenue received from advertising and marketing sold to other local businesses and circulation sales of the newspaper. We thank all the businesses and companies that have advertised in the past and continue to work with The Post-Searchlight for their promotional needs in print and digital formats. However, when those advertising dollars are reduced to a point where expenses exceed revenue and may well be that way for some time going forward, a difficult decision has been forced upon us.

We have chosen reducing print frequency as a way to reduce our expenses and allow us to keep our newsroom intact along with every member of our staff that is needed to produce The Post-Searchlight and a significant number of other community newspapers and publications in our area. The cost of producing a printed issue of the newspaper increases very rapidly from the moment the newsroom releases the “PDF” page files to the pressroom and mailroom for production.

Our Wednesday issue will be available in print and E-Edition, with the print version distributed as normal, mailed to subscribers, available in the paper boxes and at your favorite store locations. Wednesday’s issue will include all the preprint advertising you would normally find along with those which have published in a Saturday issue.

Our Saturday issue, beginning April 18, will be available to all subscribers as an E-Edition. It will contain all the news and information about our hometown that The Post-Searchlight has been providing on Saturday for nearly 46 years now. Non-subscribers will not be able to view the E-Edition but will continue to have access to all the news posted on “thepostsearchlight.com”.

We at The Post-Searchlight appreciate your continued support of your local newspaper. If you have any questions related to this change, please call us at (229) 246-2827.
