Memorial Hospital and Manor is pleased to announce Dr. James Sydney Cochran will soon join the MHM family. Dr. Cochran is relocating his office and will begin seeing patients at Amelia Medical Plaza August 1, 2020.
He has a long career that spans over 41 years of providing quality healthcare to the residents of Decatur County and the surrounding areas.
“I appreciate all of my patients who have followed me over the years and I will continue to practice as always, seeing my patients in the office, the Emergency Department, the hospital, and the nursing home,” said Dr. Cochran.
Memorial Hospital and Manor feels this is a positive move for his patients as they will continue to receive the excellent care they are accustomed to and the bonus of access to the Patient Portal and many other MHM patient amenities.
Dr. Cochran is a dedicated man having a past speckled with military service, engineering, hunting, fishing, and loving his children and grandchildren. After graduating high school, he went on to study Civil Engineering and graduated from Georgia Tech.
During his college years at Tech, Dr. Cochran worked two years at Engelhard, now BASF, in Attapulgus as a Co-op. He worked for Georgia Power from 1968 to 1969 as an engineer. He later served his country in the United States Army. Dr. Cochran served in the Vietnam War as a Platoon Leader and combat engineer in the 101st Airborne Division. After the completion of his military career, he made the decision to pursue medical school and attended the University of Georgia to complete the courses required to apply for medical school acceptance. Dr. Cochran graduated the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Cochran has been married for 52 years to Carol Hatcher Cochran, of Bainbridge, who has been with him every step of the way. They have four children, David, John, Laurie, and Edward and fourteen grandchildren. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church and loves spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Memorial Hospital and Manor is elated about Dr. Cochran’s decision. Hospital CEO Jim Lambert said, “Dr. Cochran will bring such a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are excited to have him join our team of outstanding providers.”
