Mildred Nettie Griffis, age 91, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge, Georgia. A service was held at 2 p.m, Sunday, August 23, in the Cadwell Chapel at Cox Funeral Home. The Rev. DeWitt Phillips officiated. The family received friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1 p.m. In accordance with the State of Georgia guidelines concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing and to wear protective masks.
Mildred was born August 20, 1929 in Moultrie, Georgia. A housewife and homemaker, she raised a family of five children. Mildred had a kind heart and was always ready to lend a hand. She had a great sense of humor and liked to joke around. Mildred loved to help at the Senior Citizens Center. She walked all over selling tickets to raise money for the center. She sold so many that she received awards. Mildred volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She loved jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Mildred loved life and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
Mildred Griffis is survived by her children, Kathy Simpson Pisani of Bainbridge and Nora Simpson Sirmons of Pensacola, Florida, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, William W. Griffis; children, Larry Simpson, Coy Simpson, and Deffie Simpson Drexler; and granddaughter, Christy Simpson.
