James Edwin “Eddie” Sharber, Jr. was born November 18, 1951 in Bainbridge, the son of James Edwin Sharber, Sr. and Patricia “Patty” Austin Sharber. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1969. Eddie earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Georgia Southern. He spent two and half years serving in Thailand in the Peace Corps and later owned Sharber Gulf Oil. Eddie was a member of First Baptist Church.
Story telling was a gift for Eddie. He loved to spin a tale and only embellished it for effect, especially if the story pushed a few buttons. (Being a member of the Tuesday Night Men’s Group gave him plenty of material for his stories.) He was a collector of things…coins, arrowheads, ideas, stories, and memories. He loved to start a conversation with a grin and “Remember when…” Eddie enjoyed traveling to Disney World and Callaway Gardens but also to faraway places on a cruise ship.
He loved “the home place” and spent time tree farming and growing roses. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and being the best, most fun “Granddaddy” ever.
Survivors include his wife of almost 42 years, Gail E. Sharber; his children, Jes Sharber, Tabitha & Blake Brock, and Jy & Stephen Rogerson, all of Bainbridge; his father, J.E. Sharber, Sr.; his grandchildren, Emily, Grayson, Joe and Wesley; and his siblings, Jerry (Cena) Sharber, Lisa Sharber and Lynn Sharber & John Logue, all of Bainbridge. Eddie was preceded in death by his mother, Patty Sharber.
