Mary Victoria Sturtevant Norris, age 76, died Sunday, October 4, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital, Southside, Jacksonville, Florida. Services for Mrs. Norris will be held on Thursday, October 8, at Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Bainbridge, Georgia. Rev. Newton Cranford and Rev. Billy Jones are officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Chad Knight, Anthony Mims, Dylan Rhodes, Jesse Rhodes, Russell Rogers, and Jesse Mosely will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends an hour before the service, beginning at 11:00 am.
Mary Victoria Sturtevant Norris was born in Baltimore, Maryland, December 24, 1943. She was raised by her loving father, Lester Eugene Sturtevant. Mary was a hard-working lady. Mary worked for WCTV as a Traffic Controller. Once retired, she was an active participant at the Decatur County Senior Center. She loved to do crafts and play cards or Bingo. Always busy and active, Mary wrote a section in the local newspaper, The Post Searchlight, called “Senior Corner”. She was a successful leader with any event she was involved. Mary moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2011. A member of Bethel Baptist Church when living in Bainbridge, she joined Englewood Baptist Church after her move. She was very active in the Arlington Senior Center. Mary deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved holidays and celebrating with family, particularly Christmas. Mary Norris will be dearly missed by her family and many, many friends.
Mary Norris is survived by her children, Donna Rhodes (Mitchell) of Bainbridge, Shelly Rogers (Rusty) of Jacksonville, and Lee Norris of Commerce City, Colorado; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Joel Clark of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Eugene Sturtevant; daughters, Kathy Newton and Dorcy Glass; and sister, Patricia Clark.
