The Bearcats will take on their region rival, the Cairo Syrupmakers this Friday night at home.

Following a by week, Coach Jeff Littleton said the Bearcats are feeling well-rested and ready to sop it to the Syrupmakers.

During the by week, Littleton said the team focused and worked on themselves.

“We worked on tackling, blocking and avoiding penalties,” he said.

Even with all the hard work put in, Littleton knows it won’t come easy. He acknowledged that the Syrupmakers are a well-coached, very physical team.

Coached by Steve DeVournsey, the AAAA Syrupmakers are currently 0-3, however they have a few key players to look out for on Friday night.

Littleton said the Syrupmakers have a good running back who is really fast that the team has to keep their eyes on and the defensive ends.

“Cairo is a really defensively sound team,” he said.

Kevin Speed is the Syrupmaker Quarterback and averages a total of 186 yards per game, compared to Bearcat Quarterback Quayde Hawkins, who averages 157.5 yards per game.

However, Hawkins averages a total of 164.5 passing yards, while Speed only averages 102.

Syrupmaker wide receiver, Sam Harris is also a player to watch out for. Harris averages six points a game, while Hawkins averages 4.5.

Regardless of the statistics, Littleton looks forward to facing off against the region opponents and said the Bearcats are playing much better than they have in previous games.

He invites everyone to come out and support them on Friday night at Centennial Field at 7:30 and wear their pink, as this game will be the “pink out” to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
