Iona Scott Thornton, age 85, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge, Georgia. Mrs. Thornton requested no formal services.

Iona Scott was born September 9, 1935, in Brinson, Georgia. Her parents, Rufus Scott and Pansie Iona Cumbie Scott, have preceded her in death. Iona was married to Charles Mansford Thornton.  She and Charles made their life in Tampa, Florida.  In 2000 she moved back to Decatur County. Iona was a nurse. While living in Florida, she was a member of the Hillsborough County Nursing Association and the Order of the Eastern Star, and was of the Baptist faith. Iona Scott Thornton loved her family and will be greatly missed.

Iona Scott Thornton is survived by her sisters, Mary Jean Harrison, Ruby McMillan Bennett and husband, Leonard, all of Bainbridge; Magaline Mosely and husband, J. W. of Woodville, Florida; brother, Danny Scott and wife, Shelia of Bainbridge; numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece Dana Boyd. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Hilda Fenner, and brother, Willie Rufus Scott.
