Barbara Elaine Roberts

November 20, 2020

Barbara Elaine Roberts was born September 11, 1941 to Coblece and Orcola Jamison. Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, Great- Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend made her transition on Friday morning November 20, 2020 at St. Barnabas Hospital. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents Coblece and Orcola Jamison, her brother Marvin “Butch” Jamison, her God-daughter Baby Alicia Nicole Griffin and her beloved Cousin Gail Matthews.
Elaine graduated from Lincoln High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. She worked for Sharp Ivers Lee until retiring. She worked part-time as a certified Home Health Aid. She would later become a foster mother specializing in caring for medically ill children until they were able to reunite with their families. She spent time as a volunteer with Hospice. Elaine, as noted, was a caregiver for many and that was truly one of her many passions.
One summer evening in 1966, Elaine would meet the love of her life, Mr. Eugene Roberts, while on a surprise double date. From this day a flame ignited, and a fire of love burns forever. They married, Eugene becoming her husband and she became his “Pecan Tan,” as he affectionately called her. They would later experience the joy of parenthood as their baby girl, beloved Sharnette was born. Their story does not stop there. The Lord would bless them to assist in raising their God-daughter Keyonna and they adopted a son Ricky. The blessings kept on coming to Elaine by allowing her to be a grandmother to Jerome, who she affectionately called “GEE” and playing an active role in the lives of Great-granddaughters Zoe and Kallie.
In 1981 Elaine, along with her husband and daughter, joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the Late Reverend WJ Harris. Elaine loved the Lord always and held His unchanging hand. She trusted in His word and believed the Lord was with her leading and guiding her. Elaine was a faithful member and continued serving under the leadership of her Pastor, Reverend Vincent M. Rouse Sr. as a member of the Deaconess Ministry, WJ Chorus and as a Missionary. She later served as the First Lady of the Second St. James Free Will Baptist Church of Bainbridge, Georgia.
Elaine was a feisty, no-nonsense gal who extended herself to those who needed a loving touch. She loved hard and guarded those whom she loved with everything she had. That hard exterior and feisty no-nonsense trait was sometimes mis-understood; but was always sincere and from her heart. She had a willing heart of servant hood and it was displayed throughout her life and in her home, as it was a place of safety and peace to so many.
Today we lay to rest a true servant of God. Not only did she read the word of God and stay in prayer for others, but she also lived the life of a servant of God. The Master has said unto her, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master now.”
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved Husband Eugene Roberts, her daughters Keia Sharnette, her son in law Anthony Jerome, and Keyonna Belle, her son Rickey Roberts; her Grandsons Jerome (Gee) Boyd (Alyssia Boyd), Elijah Belle, Anthony Belle, Isaiah Belle and Hezekiah Belle. Granddaughters Brianna Wallace and Kiyah Roberts. Her Great-granddaughters Zoe Boyd, Kallie Boyd and Sa’Raya Jones; Sister Orcola Jamison, Brother Edward Jamison (Demetria Jamison). Sister in Law: Irene Edmond and Cheryl Hicks. brothers-in Laws: Harvey Dee Roberts (Clara), Lawrence Roberts (Irene), Dewitt Roberts Jr., Sylvester Roberts (Brenda) and Gregory Roberts. Her Beloved Cousin Janice Hare and Niece Sheri-Lyn Holland, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral was streamed live at 12 noon on Facebook @ PGBCNEWARK on Monday, November 30, 2020.

Cotton Funeral Home of Newark, New Jersey was in charge of arrangements.
