Ferris Earl Sandlin was born February 28, 1938 in Bainbridge, Ga., the son of Samuel and Ella Campbell Sandlin. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1957. Ferris married June Blevins in 1958 and they made their home in Brinson. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Few men walk as humbly on this earth as Ferris Sandlin. He believed in working hard, taking care of your family, and fishing when you could. Farming was more than a way of life; it was life for Ferris. He worked from can to can’t most days. He planted corn, peanuts, and soybeans, raised hogs and cows, and for nearly twenty years ran Sandlin Egg Farm with 200,000 laying hens. He was named Outstanding Young Farmer for Decatur County over 50 years ago, and still loved to climb on a tractor to this day. Ferris had a sweet spirit and loved his people, who will fondly remember him answering “Yeah boy,” when they called his name.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, June Sandlin; his children, Kenny & Sue Sandlin of Brinson, Ga., Kaye Whitaker of Calhoun, Ga., and Jill & Gary Braswell of Bainbridge, Ga.; his grandchildren, Tanner Braswell, Lauren Braswell, Amanda & Eric Inlow, Amber & Darren Draper, Brittany Sandlin & Kyle Cemate, and Meghan & Chase Black; his great-grandchildren, Maloree, Lily, Caroline, Graham, and Charlotte June; and his siblings, Marjorie Jones, David Sandlin, Dottie Brown, and Elsie Seymour. In addition to his parents, Ferris was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Wilson, and his son-in-law, Raymond Whitaker.
