Bainbridge has experienced much economic growth in recent years. But, it hasn’t just been big businesses like Taurus moving in. Some businesses have expanded or moved locations. Others, like The Burning Candlewick and More have made the jump from a solely digital to a physical store.
Owned by Sherri and Demetric Stubbs, the store offers a variety of products, ranging from scented candles, to women’s clothes, to college products. Before it was a brick and mortar store, the Burning Candlewick was just Sherri selling things online. “I started online just making tumblers and doormats,” Sherri told the Post-Searchlight. Sherri originally worked as a teacher in Gadsden County, Florida, before retiring and starting her business. “And I decided I’d like to start a physical business where people can come in and get a feel of the merchandise.”
The Burning Candlewick opened last year, around Black Friday. The store is located at 308 N. West Street. The property had originally been a cleaner’s, before being demolished. The only part of the previous business left is the front brick wall, which was incorporated into the new building.
The business isn’t completely on its feet yet, as Sherri has not fully stocked the store yet. She has not been able to contact the Chamber of Commerce to hold a ribbon cutting yet, but she informed the Post Searchlight that she intends to do so, once fully stocked. Even so, that doesn’t mean the Candlewick gets no business. “Our busiest time is usually around or after five,” Sherri said, “After everybody gets off from work.”
