The Decatur County Commissioners met Tuesday morning to discuss local business development. Executive director of the Bainbridge Development Authority Rick McCaskill presented an update on various business plans and projects currently in the works. Among the projects discussed, the planned A-1 Roof Trusses project was a significant point of focus.
Based in Fort Pierce, Florida, A-1 Roof Trusses began looking for a new secondary factory location in the Florida panhandle sometime around 2019. McCaskill was tipped off to their search in summer of that same year and reached out to them. The deal was confirmed in the middle of last year, and the first concrete slab on the factory was just recently poured. The new factory will actually be larger than the Fort Pierce location, at 180,000 square feet in the first phase. When complete, it will bring in 140 jobs. The next slab is scheduled to be poured on Monday.
In addition to the A-1 development, a potential expansion of Danimer Scientific was discussed. It is currently being competed for by Bainbridge and their Kentucky location, and if brought to Bainbridge, would require expansion of their sewage treatment, as well as additional rail spurs.
Aside from Development Authority updates, the commissioners held a vote on approval to replace both of the city’s tractors and back wing mowers, with lower offers of $56,699.99 and $15,500 respectively.
The next county commissioner meeting will be held on February 23, at 7:00 PM.
