Mrs. Nina Lee Whitaker Pickren of Donalsonville died Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Donalsonville Hospital. A private family service will be held at this time due to COVID, with a public memorial service to be held at a later date.

Mrs. Pickren was a devoted wife to her high school sweetheart, C.L. Pickren, for 78 years, whom she joined in Heaven on Valentine’s Day. She was a delightful mother and creative homemaker, designing and making her children’s clothes from frilly dresses to dress suits. She was actively involved even with the great-great grandchildren and their pets. Mrs. Pickren taught Sunday School from the time she was 16 until she was 88, and was a member of Union Baptist Church in Colquitt, where she was known for keeping a prayer list in her Bible.

She is survived by one son, Timothy (Connie) Pickren of Donalsonville; two daughters, Jeanine (David) Smith of Arlington, Tx. and Ann (Archie) Roland of Deer Park, Tx.; two brothers, Lester (Becky) Whitaker of Norman Park, Ga. and Bill (Debbie) Whitaker of Sylvester, Ga.; ten grandchildren, Cyndi-Weaver Readiger, Will Roland, Jeff Roland, Teresa Garcia, Cristy Williams, Johanna Cook, April Ramirez, Jason Smith, Eric Pickren and Scott Pickren; twenty-four great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pickren was preceded in death by her husband, Cody Lamar Pickren; her parents, Wyatt and Chloe Dean Whitaker; four brothers, Irvin Whitaker, Lynwood Whitaker, Melvin Whitaker and Elisha Whitaker; and two sisters, Mildred Gordon and Delma Hoover.
