Mr. Christopher Lamar (Chris) Helms, age 54 of Colquitt, Georgia, passed away February 20, 2021 at Phoebe Putney Hospital, Albany, Georgia. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, in Harmony Cemetery, Colquitt, Georgia. Pastor Cory Thomas will officiate. Hal Hatcher, Kenny Kirkland, Scott Johnson, Timmy Haire, Joseph McConnell, and Tyrone Burns will serve as pallbearers. Chris did not care to dress-up, so feel free to wear casual attire.
In accordance with State of Georgia guidelines concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending are asked to maintain the recommended safe social distancing and to wear protective masks.
Chris Helms was born January 8, 1967 in Bainbridge, Georgia. His parents, Howard Lamar Helms and Myrtice Wynette Culverson Helms Powell, have preceded him in death. Chris was fortunate to spend the last portion of his life with his wife, Sharon Farris Helms. He loved to work and loved to work with his family as owner of Southern Irrigation and Ag. Supply. He would be proud to know his sons will continue to serve his customers. He loved to hunt and fish. He looked forward to his weekly poker night with his buddies. Chris was a member of First Baptist Church in Colquitt. The most important thing in his life was his family. Chris Helms will be deeply missed.
A niece spoke for everyone when she said of Chris:
You were LARGE! Large in Stature, Large in Personality, Large in Strength, Large in determination, Large in Life, but most importantly and most remembered
Large with Love.
Christopher Lamar Helms is survived by his wife, Sharon Farris Helms of Colquitt; children, Wesley Helms and Braxton Helms of Colquitt, Savanna Blackmon (Jason) of Jack, Alabama, and Whitney Creel (Cory) of Chancellor, Alabama; dad, James Wesley Powell of Colquitt; sister, Beth Zotyka (Chuck) of Bainbridge; brothers, Hayward Morris (Kim) of Southside, Alabama and Dale Powell (Dana) of Colquitt; grandchildren, Bently Stokes, Lillie Stokes, Zander Creel, Layton Downing, and James Downing; and a host of nieces and nephews.
