Mr. Maston O’Neal Phillips. Jr., age 86, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021, at his home in Colquitt, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, Eternal Rest Memorial Gardens in Colquitt. The Rev. Kent Barwick will officiate.
Maston O’Neal Phillips, Jr. was born September 25, 1934 in Miller County, Georgia. His parents, Maston O’Neal Phillips, Sr. and Ruth Donalson Phillips, preceded him in death. Maston graduated Miller County High School Class of 1953. He began his work career welding at Miller-Hydro in Bainbridge, Georgia. January 26, 1957, he married the love of his life, Patricia Willis Phillips. Maston proudly served in the U. S. Army. He was a hard-working man. He worked at Bainbridge Auto Parts, Massy Ferguson, and Lamar Brooks Auto Parts. In 1988 he purchased Brooks Auto Parts and served Miller County until he was physically unable. He served his community as a member of the Jaycees and local American Legion Post 165. Maston was ordained as a deacon at Union Baptist Church in 1973. A former member of First Baptist Church of Colquitt and presently of First Freewill Baptist Church, he continued to work. Over the years he has taught Sunday School, served as the Sunday School Director, sang in the choir, and continued serving as a deacon. When his boys were young, he coached little league baseball. Maston enjoyed playing the guitar. He really enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved to kayak. Maston Phillips, Jr. dearly loved his family and community. He will be deeply missed by his many, many friends.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia Willis (Pat) Phillips; children, Ricky Phillips (Melba), Susan Cline (Gene), and Robbie Phillips; sister, Lois Wilbourn; grandchildren, Kelly Howard (Daniel), Stacy Hartman (Craig), Missy Wade, Josh Phillips (Alex), Tyler Phillips, Cody Phillips, Kaitlyn Aczon (Joey), Adam Phillips, (Taylor), Jordan Dickens, and Kalab Phillips (Paige); and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Greg Phillips; son-in-law, Stanley Wade; and siblings, John Wilson Phillips, Harry Phillips, William “Billy” Phillips, Bobby Phillips, Yvonne Gadson, Myra Strange, Katie Dasher, and Dollie Childree.
