William Green Mitchell, Jr. (Billy), 81, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 in Tallahassee. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Martha S. Mitchell.
Billy was born on February 23, 1940. He was the son of William G. Mitchell, Sr. and Myrtice Black Mitchell. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1968. Billy was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church and a former Deacon.
Billy’s early career was with the USDA working in agriculture. He later worked and retired from Amoco Fabrics and Fibers in Bainbridge, Ga. Billy enjoyed hiking, gardening, and working in his blueberry orchard. He loved the outdoors and natural wildlife.
Billy is survived by his wife, Martha and his stepdaughters, Margaret Sircy Hagglund of Quincy, Fla. and Keri Sircy Wilson (Tim) of Chattahoochee and his stepson, Michael Mitchell (Miriam) of Bainbridge, Ga. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Mitchell (Diane) of Quincy, Fla. and his special aunt, Barbara Mitchell, Bainbridge, Ga. Other survivors are his grandchildren: Brandon Mitchell (Cara), Summer Mitchell Resler (Trampus) of Bainbridge, Ga., Caitlin Wilson O’Neal (Cameron) of Sneads, Fla., John H. Hamilton (Aliyah) of Quincy, Fla., Elizabeth Hamilton of Hosford, Fla., John T. and Luke Wilson of Chattahoochee, Fla. Billy was blessed with five Great-Grandchildren: Cole and Corbin Resler, Mara Mitchell, Taitym Wilson and Hudson O’Neal, and Jasmine Hamilton
Billy was preceded in death by his parents.
A private service for the family will be Thursday, April 22, 2021, graveside at the Mitchell Family Cemetery on Porter Mitchell Road in Decatur County, Ga.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Young-Fulford Funeral Home, Tallahassee, Fla. under the direction of James Sircy.
