Leonard Maurice Harrell was born October 9, 1938 in Bainbridg, the son of Eugene and Hazel Hatcher Harrell. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He retired from Stone’s Home Center. Bud was a dedicated and faithful member of Sutton Chapel United Methodist Church.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Bud” or “Daddy Bud”, this southern gentleman set the bar high for how to treat people. He had a kind, gentle nature and his humbleness was noted by those he encountered. Mr. Bud felt called to help others and gave freely of himself. It has often been said, “Bud would give you the shirt off his back.” He enjoyed working in his yard and flower gardens making sure everything was “just so”. Daddy Bud’s love for his family was unconditional. His family, friends, and even acquaintances knew the sincerity of his actions and walked away with a feeling they had experienced the hands and feet of Jesus in action.
Survivors include his children, Duriel & Sheila Wimberly of Carrolton, Ga., Kay & Charles Dunn of Newnan, Ga., and Jan & Ricky Gray of Headland, Ala.; his siblings, Faye Herndon and Tommy & Sandra Harrell, all of Bainbridge, and Lennie & Randy Gilliam of Lexington, SC; his grandchildren, Denise & Shane, Shannon & Stacey, Chad & Rhonda, Darlena, Jamie & Bobbie, Jodi & Adrian, and Jesica & Kevin; and his thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Harrell; his son, Maurey Harrell; his brother, Max Harrell; and an infant son.
Max Bryant and the staff of Clark Funeral Home are assisting the family with arrangements.
