Funeral services for Mary Ann Cook Mitchell, 71, of Cairo, Ga., are at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the First Freewill Baptist Church, Cairo. Rev. Darrell Owens will officiate. Services will conclude in the church. Private interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo. Mrs. Mitchell passed away at her home on Sunday, June 20, 2021.
Active pallbearers will be Lee Thomas, Eddie Teems, Jeff Miller, Steve Miller, Mitch Sheffield and Jay Thomason.
Mrs. Mitchell was born on April 7, 1950, in Colquitt, Ga., to the late Tony Cook, Sr. and Corine Ritter Cook. On November 18, 1967, she married Eric Wilson Mitchell, Sr., who survives. She retired from the Grady County Board of Education as a worker in the Cairo High School Lunchroom. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Cairo.
Survivors include: her husband, Rev. Eric Mitchell, Sr. of Cairo; children, Jenny Lee (Jerry Frugia) of Houston, Texas, Elisha Christian Thomason (Jay) of Cairo, Toni Lynn Mitchell of Cairo; Eric Wilson Mitchell, Jr. (Mandy) of Savannah, Ga.; grandchildren, Ericca Mitchell of Cairo,; William Draughon of Houston, Whitney Glenn of Hinsonton, Ga., Mitchell Sheffield of Jacksonville, Fla., Ashley Vickers of Cairo, Eric Mitchell, III, of Savannah, James E. Mitchell of Savannah; great-grandchildren, Arrebella, Brayden, Elisabeth, Nahla, Analeigh, Jackson, Loki, River, Sidney; sisters, Bessie Owens of Quincy, Fla., Phyllis Williams (Joseph) of Bainbridge; brothers, Gerald Cook (Connie) of Quincy, Tony Cook (Sadie) of Tallahassee, Fla, Andrew Cook of Bainbridge; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; grandchildren, Starla Mitchell, William Merritt, III; and seven brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Mitchell’s memory to: First Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Samantha Vickers, 7753 GA HWY 111, South, Cairo, GA 39828. The family will receive friends at First Freewill Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, from 10: a.m. until 11 a.m.
