Steve Harden, age 69, of Iron City, Ga., passed away Wednesday morning, July 14, 2021, at Southeast Health in Dothan, Ala.
Funeral services for Mr. Harden were held on Friday, July 16, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home, with Rev. David Williams and Rev. Bob Knight officiating. The visitation was held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. A private interment was held at Corinth Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Iron City with Dale Powell, Albert Harden, Phil Harden, David Harden, Drew Harden, Josh Boyett, and Charles Burke serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Lanny Williams, Ronnie Ingram, Alan Dozier, Wes Dozier, L.J. Miller, and Gary Nichols.
Mr. Harden was born in Colquitt, Ga., on April 13, 1952, to Henry Harden and Margaret Griffin Harden. He was involved in farming for a number of years, as well as working in law enforcement as an investigator, before retiring from the retail grocery business. He was a member of Iron City Baptist Church. Mr. Harden enjoyed fishing and everything about it (catching, cleaning, and cooking). Family gatherings, that involved a fish fry were some of his most favorite and cherished times. He came across as rough from time to time, but he had a good heart. He loved being called Papa and Big Daddy by the grands and great-grands, who he loved and made him proud.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 51 years, Sandra Knight Harden of Iron City, Ga.; his children, Dee Dow and husband Michael and Wes Harden all of Donalsonville, Ga.; his daughter-in-law, Kaye Harden of Donalsonville, Ga.; and his brothers, Troy Harden and Phil Harden both of Colquitt, Ga., and Dave Harden and wife Tara of Camilla, Ga. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Erica Boyett of Donalsonville, Ga., Lindsay Boyett and husband Josh of Bainbridge, Ga., Madison Whitaker and husband Alex of Jakin, Ga., Erin Atkinson and husband Jonathan of Donalsonville, Ga., and Teagan Harden of Donalsonville, Ga.; his great-grandchildren, Leahbeth Boyett, Cailyn Boyett, Brady Boyett, Peyton Boyett, and Emmalee Boyett; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harden was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Griffin Harden; his sister, Nita Edmonds; a brother, Albert Harden; and a son, Chris Harden.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
