The purpose of the Decatur County Schools Foundation grant is to fund projects that will create a climate which is favorable to education, while enriching and encouraging our students to attain high scholastic goals. The main objective of the DCSF is to partner with Decatur County administrators and teachers to make those visions into reality. The recipient of the DCSF Grant for 2021-22 are the Bainbridge Middle and High School Bands.
The band directors are excited about the opportunity to have experts from Florida State University School of Music come and work with their students. In February, they will have Dr. David Plack, Director of Athletic Bands, along with several college students, come give masterclasses and work with the 8th grade ensemble at Bainbridge Middle School. The students will spend about 45 minutes with the college students on their specific instruments to improve the music, as well as each student’s individual sound. Those college students and a clinician come and work with the high school concert band. It will be similar to the format as the middle school, just on a more in-depth level. The students will be working to improve their individual playing ability and will also be preparing three different selections for their performances at the Georgia Bandmaster’s Association Concert Band Festival and the Large Group Performance Evaluation hosted by the Georgia Music Educators Association.
This would not be possible without the continued support from the community and groups such as the Decatur County Schools Foundation. The Band Programs at Bainbridge Middle School and Bainbridge High appreciate all the support and look forward to serving the community through different performances throughout the year.
