Eugene “Gene” Talmadge Phillips, 87, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away on November 16, 2021, at his residence.

The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 19, 2021, at Pine Forest Baptist Church with Reverend Ken Cloud and Pastor Jim McIntosh officiating the service. Active pallbearers included Dalton Phillips, Avery Phillips, Robert Ridgley, Lee Godwin, Alan Sheffield, and Philip Keaton.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Faith Funeral Home in Havana, Fla. (850-539-4300 or www.faithfuneralhome.com).

Mr. Phillips was born August 29, 1934, in Miller County, Ga., to the late Dewey W. Phillips and the late Ella (Alston) Phillips. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran where he served 8 years and another 2 years in the Army National Guard. He was a retired HVAC supervisor at Amoco Fabrics & Fibers.  As a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon in the church for over 50 years. He wrote two autobiographies about his life and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emory Askew Phillips of Bainbridge; his sons Ronald ”Ronnie” Keith Phillips (wife Tracie) of Bainbridge, and Tracy Darin Phillips (wife Holli) of St Johns, Fla.; three grandchildren, Megan Deanna Phillips of Bainbridge, Joshua Dalton Phillips and Avery Daniel Phillips, both of St Johns, Fla.; sisters JoAnn Standridge (husband Jarrell) of Winder, Ga., and Loraine Blackman of Mobile, Ala.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Kenneth “Danny” Daniel Phillips and a sister Janie Sheffield.
