Lady Cats Basketball beats Lady Bulldogs in first home game

The Lady Cats Varsity Basketball team took on the Thomasville Lady Bulldogs at home on Saturday night, where the Lady Cats won 50-45.
They then traveled to Valdosta for a Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament on Monday against Americus High School, where they won in a close game of 33-30.
Saturday night, the Lady Cats started off neck and neck with the Lady Bulldogs. In the first quarter, the Lady Cats were only up by one point 8-9. As they moved into the second quarter, the Lady Cats amped up their defense, allowing for the Lady Bulldogs to only make four points, while the Lady Cats made 14.
With a 23-12 lead, the Lady Cats headed into halftime.
When they returned to the court, the Lady Bulldogs came out hungry.
The team scored 13 points in the third quarter and 20 points in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Cats were able to outscore them in the third quarter, shooting 18 points of their own, but fell short in the fourth quarter with only nine points.
However, their early lead still allowed them to pull out a win.
In double figures for the Lady Cats were Detavia Salter with 21 points and Angel Peterson with 10 points.
Other scorers for the Lady Cats included Elexis Warner and Marquita Jakes with 6 points each, Kirston Noble with 4 points, Raven Williams with 2 points and Courtney Sanders with one point.
Head Coach Kelvin Cochran was proud of the win.
“It was good season opening win,” he said. “I saw some good things and some things we need to keep working on to get better at, as the season moves forward.”
The Lady Cats continued to show their strengths in the first road game against the Lady Panthers.
Salter was the only Lady Cat with double figures, scoring 13 points over the course of the game.
Other scorers were Zoe Evans with 6 points, Noble with 5 points, Peterson with 4 points, Jakes with 3 points and Williams with 2 points.
The Lady Cats will now move their attention to non-region competitor Early County, who they will play in Blakely on Tuesday, November 30 at 4 p.m.
