A severe traffic accident occurred earlier this morning at the Earle May Boat Basin, when a semi-truck crashed through the guardrails on the Hwy 84 bridge over Hatcher Rd and crashed into the river. Resident Ashley King witnessed the accident, and according to his account, the driver was struggling to swim to shore. King dove into the river and helped the man to the bank. EMS, Decatur County Fire and Rescue, Bainbridge Public Safety, DNR and the Georgia Department of Public Safety were on the scene. The driver was treated by EMS, though his current condition is unknown. The Post-Searchlight will have more updates on this story as they are made available.
