Recent Bainbridge High School graduate, Angel Peterson signed a basketball scholarship with Enterprise State Community College last week to continue both her academic and athletic endeavors.
Peterson had long dreamed of playing basketball at the next level, but as time for school was soon approaching, she thought her dreams had slipped past. However, everything changed when Lady Boll Weevils Coach, Jermain Williams saw footage of Peterson playing.
“I had originally traveled to a game with Coach Cochran for a tryout, but it turned out we went to the wrong game,” Peterson said. “Coach Williams then planned to come watch me here in Bainbridge, but something came up, so he just saw footage of me.”
While Peterson waited to hear back from Williams about her footage, she never quit pushing. She continued to train at the BHS Gym and practice with the Bearcats to improve her skillset.
Williams was impressed with Peterson’s determination and drive and offered her a chance to continue playing at Enterprise as Point Guard.
“I was so happy,” Peterson said.
Now, Peterson encourages her fellow teammates to never give up on what they want to do, even if time seems to be running out.
“Work out even on your off days, keep pushing,” she said.
Peterson said she has every intention of taking what Head Coach Kelvin Cochran taught her.
“He always taught us to go hard, so that’s what I plan to do,” she said.
While she may be leaving the Lady Cats, her legacy will continue on forever.
“I’m extremely happy and proud of Angel,” Cochran said. “Her work ethic is top tier and she’s very deserving of this opportunity to play at the next level. I’m thankful Coach Williams believed in her and I’m excited to watch her continued growth as a young woman and player.”
Peterson will leave for Enterprise on August 22, where she will then begin classes to become a nurse.
