Hey everyone. My name is Travis Politakis and I am pleased to announce I am the new Sports Reporter at The Post-Searchlight. I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but moved shortly after and grew up in Houston, Texas, where I graduated from Frassati Catholic High School in 2018. I went on to attend the University of Tampa in Florida where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Communication on May 7, 2022.
During my childhood and throughout school I developed a burning passion for sports. Whether it was playing sports all throughout high school or spending the weekends watching football with my dad, I was immersed in the sports world. I have traveled across the country attending hundreds of sporting events with my family and quickly learned that I wanted sports to be a part of my everyday life. I have attended many events such as the NBA Finals, Texas A&M Football games, the Home Run Derby and the SEC Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. By going to those events I learned the importance of fan engagement and felt that it is my duty to bring sports fans an even more exclusive fan experience.
During my time at the University of Tampa I held three different positions at The Minaret Student Newspaper including Head Copy Editor, Sports Editor and Sports Writer. Throughout my time there I covered many events such as Super Bowl LV, the Outback Bowl, and the 2021 NHL Stanley Cup.
In the summer of 2018 I attended the Walter Cronkite Sports Broadcasting Summer Program where I spent the summer covering the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks doing play-by-play, player interviews, game stories, and learning the ins and outs of the journalism industry.
I am excited to bring the skills I have learned along with new ideas to Bainbridge and provide the town with new insights and coverage that bring fans closer to the athletics throughout Bainbridge and the state of Georgia.
