Tuesday saw members of the Chamber of Commerce packed into a model home just off Tallahassee Highway, as they had gathered for a ribbon cutting for D.R. Horton. The home construction company’s first phase of houses, Southgate, which began construction in August of last year, is nearing completion, with 29 single-family homes expected to be completed. Phase two, which will consist of roughly 50 single-family homes, is projected to begin by Christmas. Each house comes with stainless steel appliances standard, including a stove, microwave and dishwasher, while having a refrigerator installed is extra. Luxury vinyl plank flooring and granite countertops are also standard.
Pam Edwards, sales rep for D.R. Horton, spoke with the Post-Searchlight, wanting to emphasize that, “we have a model home that’s open seven days a week, that we invite anyone and everyone to come out and take a look at us… come see what we’re doing out here!”
Chamber president Lauren Minor spoke at the event as well. “D.R. Horton has joined the Chamber at the top level,” she said, “and we’re so happy about your partnership with us and the community, but we’re more happy to have a solution for the big housing problem we had here in Bainbridge.” According to Minor, the Chamber had been looking for years for a solution to the problem. “This is a wonderful solution, a great opportunity for the people of Bainbridge, and a great thing for us as we try to recruit new business and new people in, for them to have a great place to call home.”
Stewart Haire, Land Manager for D.R. Horton, also spoke at the event, expanding upon Horton’s housing plans for southwest Georgia. “We are excited to share Phase one of Southgate with 29 homes currently under construction. Phase two and three of the community are planned to follow with 107 single family homes, followed by Phase four with 137 homes for a grand total of 273 single-family homes,” he told the Post-Searchlight in an official statement. Including other projects, they have about 700 lots under contract in Bainbridge.
The model home is open all week, and Edwards clarified that they would be willing to accommodate work schedules to tour potential clients.
