The Post-Searchlight’s Ethan Reddish took first place in the Multimedia Journalism category Friday at the Georgia Press Association (GPA) awards.
The GPA holds the annual awards banquet for newspapers across the state to honor excellent work from the year, in addition to seminars dealing with journalism, as well as advertising in print media. The Post Searchlight attended the event on Jekyll Island and walked away with a first-place award.
The winning video was a short piece on Elephant Aid International CEO Carol Buckley and her elephant Tarra. Reddish, the news writer at The Post-Searchlight, said it was an honor to win the award. “It’s nice to be recognized for that at that level,” Reddish said. “There’s a lot of other people you’re competing against, … there’s never any guarantee where you’re going to place.”
The video, available to view on the Post-Searchlight’s Facebook page, was made for the one-year anniversary of Tarra’s arrival at the Attapulgus sanctuary. Reddish has previously won awards for his coverage of Elephant Aid International before. He was awarded Photo of the Year in 2022 for a photo of Bo, an elephant at the refuge.
Reddish has his sights set on awards for next year, but said he doesn’t want to give away “all [his] secrets” as to what he’s going to submit.
