A huge crowd gathered at the Earle May Boat Basin on Tuesday for this year’s Fourth of July festivities. According to city special event coordinator Randee Eubanks, it may have been the largest crowd the venue has ever seen. By her estimate, well over 1,000 people attended, both locals and visitors.
“We feel that this is the biggest Fourth of July that we’ve ever had,” Eubanks said. “More vendors than we’ve ever had, great entertainment, the fireworks, the largest crowd we’ve ever seen. According to Roy Oliver, who’s been with the city for years, he said it was the largest crowd he’d seen at the Boat Basin.”
The city was able to get in touch with Craig Morgan through RCS Productions, a talent booking firm the city has used in the past. This marked the first time Morgan has performed at a city event, and Eubanks believed it was Morgan’s star power that contributed to the large attendance. “Almost every community has their fireworks and stuff like that, but in order to get people from Tallahassee, Dothan, Donalsonville, Colquitt, Albany… we saw a lot of Alabama tags, a lot of Florida tags, a lot of surrounding counties.”
As always, sponsors of the event had their own tent present; this year’s sponsors included the city of Bainbridge, Visit Bainbridge, Taurus, King Kozlarek Attorney at Law, Action GM, Sun Stop, A-1 Industries, Shaw Floors, and Bates Engineers/Contractors.
“We were just in awe of the large crowd and the great concert,” Eubanks said. “We’re thankful for our sponsors, very thankful for the city employees that worked all day, and weeks and months in advance to get this event ready, Bainbridge Public Safety, the Sheriff’s Department, Decatur County Fire and Rescue, for coming out and helping with this event so we can make it as safe as possible.”
She concluded, “This is an event that we want the people of Bainbridge can be proud of, that people from all over, to see our fireworks and our concert. We appreciate everybody coming out, and appreciate all the help in getting it organized.”
