With a new school year approaching, local schools, both private and public, are bringing in new faculty and staff. While the Decatur County School System has hired Dr. Boyd English as the new school superintendent, Grace Christian Academy has hired several new teachers over the last couple of months.
These teachers include: Megan McRae; Kayleigh Kenner; Jonnie Brewer; Faith Carroll, nee Taunton; Dallas Burke; and Candice Walker.
McRae previously taught at Grace, before going to teach Kindergarten and pre-K classes in the Decatur County School system. Now returning to Grace, she will be teaching K4 students at GCA’s recently opened East Campus.
Ketner, a Bainbridge local with teaching degrees from both Valdosta State and Grand Canyon University, will begin teaching fourth grade in the new semester.
Brewer is a recent graduate of Valdosta State with an English degree, and was originally a journalist.
Carroll, an ABAC graduate with a major in Ag Education, will now teach middle school science, in addition to electives pertaining to both middle and high school ag.
Burke originally served as band director at Seminole County High School, and is currently also a member of Grace Church. He will teach both electives and high school Bible classes.
Walker, formerly a GCA substitute teacher, will now be working as a pre-K PE teacher, as well as an aftercare instructor.
“We’re excited about the new year,” said GCA headmaster Sean Johnson. He was positive about the new ag classes and other programs the school would be able to offer with these new hires. “We’ve hired some people that really match our vision.”
