Anna Kate Robbins was born December 8, 1928, in Apalachicola, Fla., the daughter of Henry & Doris Chappell Robbins. Sis began her life as a spitfire with a story. Her mother wanted to name her Bobbie Ann after her grandparents, Robert & Anna Chappell. Henry had another idea and slipped off to the courthouse to register the birth while Doris was busy with the baby. Anna Kate it was. Doris dubbed her baby girl “Little Sister”, and the rest is history.
Sis graduated from Bainbridge High School, Class of 1945, and attended Georgia State College for Women in Valdosta. She married her high school sweetheart, Wilfred F. Cook, in 1948. Sis and Wilfred lived in Texas, Illinois, and California during his years of service in the Air Force, settling back in Bainbridge in the early 50s. She landed a job at International Paper and worked with Wilfred at the frame shop well after their retirement.
Sis was such a good friend to many. She told it like it was, did things the way she wanted to, and didn’t mind agreeing to disagree. She enjoyed cross-stitching and working in her yard. Sis was an avid reader and did not let deteriorating eyesight hinder her love for books. She just swapped to “books on tape”. Sis visited with friends and neighbors always keeping up with their comings and goings.
Sis and Wilfred were members of First United Methodist Church where they loved and served generations of families over the years. She was quick to rally around a cause and ready to serve her signature pecan pie at the drop of a hat. Spitfire with a story…that surely left a mark on the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Nancy Cook Lindsey, Patti Hatcher Williams, Billie Jean Hatcher O’Leary, David Cook, Joy Long Wilkins, John Long, and Martha Barnard; her brother-in-law, Thomas R. Cook; her close friends, Neal Fender, Cheryl Godwin, Becky Durden, Martha Skipper, Sandra Sirmons, Darlene Cooper, Don Wright, and James & Lynn Stabler. In addition to her parents, Sis was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Wilfred Franklin Cook.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
